Why Hire a Sleep Consultant?

Or maybe you’re wondering, what is a sleep consultant?

Basically, a sleep consultant is someone who helps you to solve your sleep issues!  Sleep Consultants can specialize in Pediatrics or Adults, some specialize in both.  A Sleep Consultant is not a medical professional and therefore, does not offer medical advice or deal with sleep issues related to a medical condition.  I am also a Neonatal and Pediatric Physician Assistant, and although this gives me much more insight as a sleep consultant, I do not offer medical advice as a Sleep Consultant

I don’t know about you, but I love my sleep.

When we become parents we all expect our sleep to be interrupted.  After a while, that lack of sleep can really take a toll on you.  Or maybe you consider your child to be a decent sleeper but you’re wondering, does my 9-month-old really need to eat two times a night?  Hint: unless they have an underlying medical condition, they don’t!  Is your child’s bedtime routine taking hours and then before you know it… boom!  They’re up again and need to be rocked back to sleep?  Maybe your child is sleeping in your bed with you and you would really like to have your bed back.  A Sleep Consultant helps you to overcome all of these issues and more.  We even can help expecting parents or parents of newborns lay a good foundation for better sleep habits.  Every Sleep Consultant has their own approach to sleep.  This can range from gentle methods to Cry It Out (and many methods in between).

Maybe You’re Tired of Everyone Else’s Advice Not Working

Maybe you have had a multitude of family members, friends, or coworkers give you advice on how to get your baby to sleep through the night.  You’re probably confused, because everyone is telling you something different.  Or frustrated that what worked for your friend isn’t working for you.

Here’s the thing- there are multiple ways to solve sleep issues.  There are some methods that work better for babies, other methods tend to work well for toddlers.  Depending on a child’s temperament and a parent’s comfort level, the method that your sister used may not work for you and your baby.

Also, it’s not usually one thing that is keeping your baby from getting good sleep.  It’s a bunch of little factors that are stacking on top of each other and leading to poor sleep.

You and Your Baby are Unique

Every baby is different.  Your baby’s sleep issues are not the same sleep issues of another baby.  I can help to filter out what everyone else is telling you, and focus on what YOUR baby needs.  I look at all of the factors attributing to poor sleep, and create a personalized plan.  I provide encouragement when things get rough, and suggest adjustments to the plan if needed.

Sleep training doesn’t mean just throwing a certain method at you and expecting success.  It’s a process to figure out what is all playing a factor in your child’s poor sleep.  You can follow a method but without making other adjustments to schedule, habits, bedtime routine and considerations for a baby’s temperament and age, you may never see success.
